This Thanksgiving I want to start a tradition of writing a post listing specifics that I am so thankful for. I should be, and try to be thankful for everything I have and have ever been blessed with. Here is my list for 2009:
- Family – My wife, son, and soon to be second son, family back in Arkansas. Niece and nephew’s, brother and sister, in-laws, and other family I do not really care about.
- Best Friends – David Holiman, Jake Rownd, David Zuber.
- Online Friends – AubreyMo, Skraggy, CodeMonkey , PhreeMarket, TuxStorm, Angerz, and the many others that I converse with on a daily basis. (my offer still stands that if you guys pass through DFW, I will buy you a drink of choice.) You guys are all great!
- Job – Swissport. I love my new job. I love it far better than I ever did Allied Aviation hands down. I am so thankful to be non-union now too. That was one of the best moves I have ever made for my family – job change and going non-union.
- Home – Blessed to have a home to go to everyday.
- Facebook – I find it hard to say Facebook, but I am thankful for Facebook. It has been keeping me up with what school and college friends are up to.
- Plurk – I love Plurk.com. It is another social networking site that works like a mini discussion board.
- Webserver – Geeky I know, but the Cotterville webserver has been a great learning tool, tinker toy, and blog host for CarrieCotter.net, JennyCarlisle.net, and ChrisCotter.net. The server has not been rebooted in months, and is still just rock solid, running Debian Linux with pride.
- Car – Working car (Ellie)
- Coffee – Black Gold. I love it every morning at 3:00am when my alarm sounds to wake me up for work.
- Art/beauty – Paintings, photography, children’s drawings, etc.
- Music – My music collection, Pandora.
- College/Education – UTA. I will finish one day.
- Baby on the way – Isaac. One of the greatest blessings a person can receive in a lifetime. Taking predictions for his birthday now. Isaac’s due date is December 30, what is your prediction? Comment.
- Winter season – I am so glad it is finally cooling off in Texas.
- Conservative politicians.
- The Linux Foundation – They are one of the most important defenders of Linux, and I will soon be a lifetime member. I believe in the work these guys are doing, and am convinced they will lead the charge to the ever-growing Linux user base.
- Church – Even though I believe the Christian Church is failing a large section of the U.S. population, I am still thankful for it. The failing part is something for another day.
- Boy Scouts – With modern society trying to weed out masculinity, and most of the things that a boy should know, I am thankful for the boy scouts. The gender neutrality movement is causing the destruction of our future men. We have such a good den of boys, potential future leaders.
- Texas – I am proud to say I live in Texas. This is a conservative state, and because of the conservative policies put in place by the Governor and other politicians, Texas has been able to withstand the economic recession better than most states. Football is king here. My teams are the Longhorns and, of course, the C0wboys, even though the Cowboys have been playing like crap lately. Thank you God for Texas.
